Gardening Day

We had the opportunity to spend a few hours at the Tarrant Area Food Bank kitchen garden! It was hard work, but also a lot of fun. Catherine and I cleaned up the pepper and tomato sections, tossing all the rotten ones into the compost pile and salvaging everything that was ripe. We watered, fertilized, weeded- pretty much anything you can think of.

The kitchen garden was right on the TAFB property. They do have a larger garden out west, but needed our help with this one more. The garden was about 8 feet by 200 feet, along the edge of the parking lot. It had an awesome design with 13 sections representing the 13 counties the food bank serves. Produce from the kitchen garden is used for cooking classes, nutrition education and employee shindigs.

Though I knew nothing about gardening, I had a great time and would love to start one as part of a future job. Working outside definitely beats sitting in the office all day, even in the Texas heat!
